Camp Erin – Detroit

About Camp Erin – Detroit

Camp Erin – Detroit is an annual, overnight, weekend-long camp experience for children and teens that have experienced the death of someone close to them. The camp weekend is offered free of charge and is facilitated by professional staff specializing in grief and trained volunteers from SandCastles Grief Support Program. Grief is a normal, natural response to death, and individuals who are supported in their loss are able to heal in additional ways. Camp Erin offers that support.

SandCastles has offered a camp program since 1997. In 2009, we were pleased to become Camp Erin – Detroit, a part of the national Camp Erin network. Camp Erin is the largest network of bereavement camps in the country, serving more children than any other organization. Camp Erin – Detroit is funded in part by The Moyer Foundation. Additional funding includes Henry Ford Hospice and donations from individuals, groups and community organizations.

Are you someone looking to become involved with helping children on their grief journey even if it’s just for a short weekend? Here is your opportunity! SandCastles is looking for volunteers to help in support of their Camp Erin – Detroit bereavement camp held the weekend of August 17-19, 2018. We rely on volunteers during this memorable weekend experience and have many different opportunities for you to volunteer. We are in need of Facilitators to facilitate the children’s groups for the weekend, Felpers that can assist in many areas throughout the weekend, and Helpers for check-in/check-out and our closing picnic for camp.

The weekend is both challenging and rewarding for both the children and adults to learn and to grow in amazing ways. We will provide you with the complete SandCastles volunteer training program prior to camp, which will prepare you to work as a support group facilitator. If you are interested in joining our team for the weekend or finding out more information about this fun-filled, challenging, memorable and potentially life-changing experience, please contact us at 313-874-6881. Please indicate you are calling to become a volunteer for Camp Erin – Detroit. Your commitment will make a big difference in the lives of grieving children in the community.
